Abstract

Pittings in linear guideways are detected by using the model-generated wavelet analysis. The impact sound, appearing when the linear guide is moving, is transferred by an electroacoustic sensor into digital signal. The disturbance caused by the small-size pitting can not be directly detected in this transferred digital signal, but is recognized by the multiscale analysis with a process adapted filter base. From the results of the experiences, the model-generated wavelet analysis provides a more sensitive tool to diagnose faults than does the Fourier transform.
